 Computer

Q: My computer is frozen or ‘acting up’.

A: Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete > check to see what is not responding > end task, restart.

Q: My computer won’t shut off or is non-responsive.

A: Press and HOLD the power button until it shuts off.

Q: My computer runs slowly in the mornings.

A: Virus and spy ware programs trying to work. Leave machine on but logged off at night.

Q: My computer still runs slowly.

A: Open internet > tools > internet options > delete temp files, cookies and clear history> restart machine.

Q: I can’t run more than one program at a time.

A: Restart machine; check for adware, check for updates for Windows.

Q: My computer doesn’t recognize my scanner.

A: Check all connections, restart machine.

Q: My email is acting up.

A: Close program, restart machine.

Q: How do I add a signature?

A: Tools > options > mail format > signatures

Q: I can’t get into my ACE email at home.

A: Use schools\ before your username.

Q: I can get to the ACE site but no log on screen appears.

A: Allow all pop ups from ACE. (Tools > pop up blocker > settings.

Q: I can’t get to my address book on my webmail.

A: Personal addresses are in your contacts on the left side of the window.

Q: My email takes a long time to load.

A: Delete old email from your inbox & sent folders. Then delete from the deleted folder.

 Internet

Q: I get a lot of pop ups.

A: Tools > Pop up blocker > turn on
A: You may have Adware. Run spyware scan. If it is not on your machine, put in a request for it to be installed.

 Printers

Q: My page has black streaks.

A: Pull out toner, rock up and down. If recurs put in a request for new toner by printer model number. i.e. HP Laserjet 2100

Q: Won’t print.

A: Check power, check paper tray, check for paper jam, turn off and on.

Q: My printing is faint.

A: Needs new ink.

Q: I put in new ink and now it won’t print at all.

A: Check to see if you took off protective tape; check for incorrect installation.

Q: My mouse doesn’t track right anymore.

A: If it is a ball mouse, turn over, open, clean ball and wheels inside. Also clean mouse pad or replace the pad.

Q: I have a brand new optical mouse(red light-no ball)  that doesn’t track correctly.

A: Use desk or simple mouse pad, not one with reflective surface.

 Monitor                           

Q: My monitor is dark.

A: Check all plugs and connections, check power switch, shake mouse.

Q: My screen seems to vibrate.

A: Move away from electric devices, i.e. electric pencil sharpeners, breaker boxes, TVs.

Q: No sound at all.

A: Check if turned off, check if muted, check for connection.

Q: I get sound on some things and not on others.

A: Double click on speaker icon on taskbar, check to see if muted or low in one area or another.

 Cameras

Q: What is the best camera to buy & how much do they cost?

A:  Kodak EasyShare, prices vary - check Office Depot.

Q: How many mega pixels do I need?

A: 3.5

Q: My batteries don’t last very long.

A: Try a lithium battery.

 Ipaq, Palm, Axim

Q: My handheld will not sync.

A: Press reset button.

Q: My handheld is frozen.

A: Press the reset button.

Q: My handheld lost all it’s data.

A: Battery is dead, recharge.

 

Laptop

Q: My power button flashes yellow or steady yellow or does not respond to shakes or taps.

A: Press and release computer power button to wake.
